Joey's New Fave is Lili's for Dinner

It really says alot when you leave a place after dinner looking forward to the next time you can come back. It says even more when you actually come back the very next weekend! That is what Joey and I did after having dinner at Lili's Bistro on Magnolia. We went one Saturday evening and the very next Saturday made plans to go again and this time invite another couple so we could share this little gem!

Lili's has everything going for it... Nice, yet unpretentious atmosphere, great food with an excellent variety, good value on vino, competent servers, friendly owner and reasonable prices. The menu features small plates and large plates. The small plates are delicious and fun to share. Thus far, we have tried the following: grilled halloumi ($10), rosemary polenta fries ($8), asian crab cakes ($10), and the mini cristos ($8). All of these items were tasty, but our favorite has probably been the asian crab cakes. The lemongrass and lime addition to the crab cakes make them especially unique. They are a must try! The polenta fries are great to share with a group of four.

As for salads, Joey loves the wedge ($4). Apparently, it is better than most wedge salads. I prefer the tabouli salad ($5) which was excellent. For entrees, Joey's favorite is the paella stuffed roasted poblano pepper ($18). The pepper is filled with a mixture of rice, chicken, shrimp, and sausage and topped with two blackened frog legs. This dish is a little spicer than I prefer, but Joey loves it. He has also had the pork chop ($19) which is topped with a dried cherry compote and served with Poblano mashed potatoes. While Joey enjoyed it, he noted the sweet cherry compote may not be for everyone. This is not your traditional pork chop so be prepared. The potatoes, however, were a home run. My current entree of preference is the seafood trio ($20) which comes with a crab cake, chile glazed salmon and two grilled shrimp.

For wine, we have enjoyed the Nobilo Sauvignon Blanc ($20 per bottle) and for dessert we indulged in the Stephen Pyles Heaven & Hell Cake ($5). This delicious treat was part angel food cake and part devil's food cake. Each layer was separated by a light, peanut butter mousse and then the entire cake is dunked in a chocolate ganache. YMMMMMMM!! Save room to try this one - if there is any left! On our most recent visit, we ordered the last piece and the table behind us was left wishing they had ordered it first!

Starting soon, Lili's will only take reservations for parties of 6 or more, but do not let this deter you from trying the best new restaurant in town!

Oh my goodness, I am such a fan of Lili's! I did the same thing. I had dinner there on a Wednesday and took Chuck there for a glass of wine on Thursday. Then I took Caroline there for lunch the next week or the week after. I just love it!
